SamiArt, arranged and organised all aspects of this event in her usual inimitable style. She invited artist Hana Horack-Elyafi to create a design, which was transferred to a full-size template and was painted in Wallington, outside the Public Library. The project is now complete and the Rainbow is hanging in the Jubilee Health Center, we love the way the silks respond to the passers-by: they float from the wall and dance.
This was a truly collaborative project as after creating the tiny sketches they were enlarged by a team of three people drawing freehand (Hana Horack-Elyafi, Samia Tossio and Araceli Khalaf-Ornelas). Then it was a case of “we three meeting again” to set up Samia’s gazebo outside the library and await the participation of the public. There were also 17 home educated children who participated in the painting of the silks, three of whom have made documentary videos of the project – great for their Silver Arts Awards!
